Mountain Training logo - RAW Adventures

Delivered by RAW’s qualified trainers and designed by awarding body Mountain Training, Rock Skills Intermediate is the perfect step for climbers keen to build on existing skills and become independent outdoor climbers. Alongside our expert trainers and other developing climbers, you’ll spend two days in beautiful Eryri (Snowdonia) developing your movement skills and widening your repertoire of climbing moves.

In small groups of just 4 people, you’ll learn:

  • Essential kit, footwear and equipment for safety and performance, including rock boot fit
  • How to properly warm up, common rock climbing injuries, identifying hazards and managing the risks of the crags
  • How trad climbing protection works, new knots and rope systems and how to build anchors and select runners
  • Ropework, belaying, holding falls, lowering, seconding a route and personal abseiling
  • Decision-making skills to help you take more responsibility for placing gear, building anchors and belaying a lead climber
  • The challenges presented by different rock types, how to trust your feet and transfer your weight correctly as you move up the crag
  • Where you can climb in the UK and Ireland, choosing where to climb and correct use of guidebooks and mobile devices to find crags and routes
  • Crag etiquette, ethics, access and environmental considerations, and the organisations that support us as climbers

Rock Skills Intermediate with RAW Adventures

RAW Adventures is proud to be an accredited Mountain Training provider and passionate about supporting people to be independent climbers. We know that rock climbing is very much a personal journey, so we keep our training groups small (1 trainer to every 4 participants), enabling us to provide a safe, sociable experience that’s tailored precisely to the needs of each group. Our Rock Skills Intermediate leaders allow plenty of time to immerse yourself in the beautiful places you’ll be learning in, and to share their in-depth local knowledge.

By the end of the course, you can expect to be in a strong position to second a lead climber on natural rock and participate safely in a climbing session. If you’re inspired to take your experience further, you might want to move on to a ‘Learn to Lead’ Sports or Trad courses.

We had an awesome day climbing with Jonathan and Leon - two very knackered but happy teenagers (and adults!) after today - thanks both.

Rebecca

This is my second course with RAW and on both occasions they've made it a very enjoyable and knowledgeable experience, they will be at the top of my list when I look at booking the next stages in my training, can't recommend them enough.
