UTS Recces - RAW Adventures

A group of us did the Llanberis Path/PYG Track recce in preparation for next month's UTS 50K. We were joined by 3 others and led by Tess and Susie. We all really enjoyed our day, we had a great time, and it was invaluable preparation for the race. Many thanks to Tess for being such an awesome guide!

We were lucky with the weather and so glad we did the PYG track in advance of the race, knowing we can now handle that part of the route gave us all confidence.

Mountain Skills - RAW Adventures

Thank you to RAW Adventures for all their work behind the scenes AND for, of course asking super Cara to Instruct us over the weekend.

A very big thank you to you Cara, for enjoyably and effectively passing on all the required information and much more. Hearing about your experiences and adventures was interesting and enjoyable - I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the weekend and loved meeting you all and getting to know you better.

Mountain Ultra Technical Skills and Crib Goch - RAW Adventures

I went in with zero scrambling experience and terrified of the prospect of Crib Goch, which had been quite prohibitively mythologised in my head via social media etc as an impossibly scary ridge line.

Thanks to RAW’s organisation, proper assessment of our individual abilities, and more than adequate supervision by guides with world-beating CVs, I managed to achieve something that I thought was meant for other people, not me. Thanks to the incredible Helen and Jade, I learnt a lot about where the fear comes from in these environments, when to listen to it and when to quiet it down with clearer headed assessment of risks, and safely travel through consequential terrain.

I’m beyond grateful excited to now feel able to continue building confidence in these truly awe inspiring environments; spaces that before the weekend with RAW I thought just weren’t meant for me.

A massive thank you to Kate, Helen and Jade, all of whom are beyond amazing at what they do. If you’re nervous about scrambling/exposure in mountains, please don’t think twice about booking in with RAW.

Lowland Leader Assessment - RAW Adventures

I completed my Lowland Leader course and assessment with RAW Adventures, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The company was recommended by a fellow hiker and friend, so I already had confidence I’d be in good hands, and they absolutely delivered.

Both the course and assessment were run locally for me, and everything was organised professionally from start to finish. The team created a supportive and well-structured learning environment that really helped build my confidence.

A special shout-out to Cara, who was both professional and incredibly friendly. She made everyone feel at ease during the assessment, which made a big difference. Her experience and approachable teaching style meant we learned a lot while still genuinely enjoying ourselves. I feel very lucky to have worked with someone of her calibre.

If you’re considering a course, assessment, or trip with RAW Adventures, I highly recommend them, you won’t be disappointed.

Hill and Moorland Leader - RAW Adventures

The Hill and Moorland assessment with RAW Adventures was tough but really enjoyable and definitely worth it. The challenge level was spot on and pushed me in the right way.

Kath was absolutely ace - super knowledgeable and great at managing a group with mixed abilities, fitness, and experience. Everyone felt included and supported.

I’d highly recommend RAW Adventures, especially for Hill and Moorland training or assessment.

Winter DofE Gold Residential - RAW Adventures

My son joined RAW for their Winter skills Gold DofE residential course.

Booking was very easy (with the added bonus of being able to pay for the course in installments) and communication in the lead up to the course excellent. A lift to/from the local station was also offered.

The course accommodation was superb and situated close to a prime winter skills venue. Catering was top notch (the venison curry cooked by the instructors a highlight).

My son was impressed by the equipment that was lent (helmets/axes/boots/crampons). It would have been very easy to spend the entire 5 days locally but RAW gave a much more varied experience visiting a number of top quality venues.

The course covered all you'd expect from a winter skills course, ice axe arrest, moving with axe and crampons, weather and avalanche awareness and the highlight for my son, digging snow holes. The instructor/student ratio was superb and my son spoke very highly of both instructors.

The course met all the requirements of his DofE residential and the assessor's report was added to his eDofE account just a couple of days after the course.
