To stop awhile, think and reflect is really what the Snowdonia Slate Trail is all about. Before, during and after the miles of walking. To pause in the footsteps of so many slate quarry workers and their families. To hear their hearts beating as they walked the steep paths to their work places, as they braved the engine-less slate carts, free-wheeling to Porthmadog.
To hear the croak of a lonely raven in the high places and the rush of water through gorges and streams. To pass through so many gate and stiles – still being used today. What feet have passed over these in times gone? To smell the flowering gorse and taste the bilberries on offer…
A wonderful journey that connects so many people, places, communities and forgotten corners. An inspired concept so humbly worked upon by Aled Owen and a team of volunteers and supporters that are (still) working tirelessly in the background to bring Aled’s vision to life. Wander and return…again and again. The trail has been designed to walk in its entirety over 6-8 days, or taken in sections as you see fit.
